An all-inclusive private birthday party at Once Upon an Island on Balboa Island in Newport Beach, California. A tea party the way a five-year-old imagines one: real cups, a princess pouring, and mermaids at the table. Your favourite princess hosts alongside one to three Neverland Mermaids, and the whole celebration runs on their timing, not yours: the tea service, the salon turn for every child, the crafts and the crowning ceremony at the end.

Picture the day
This is how the party runs.
Your favourite princess and up to three Neverland Mermaids host it from the first bubble to the last cup of tea. Here is the whole thing, in order, so you know exactly what you are booking.
1It starts
She swims through the rainbow.
The doors open and she does not walk in, she swims through: through the rainbow tunnel and out into a sea of bubbles, with the whole room going at once. Her princess and the Neverland Mermaids are waiting on the other side, and they greet the birthday girl first, by name, before leading every child through into the party room.
2Then
Together, they wish the wardrobe open.
Hidden in the forest is a wardrobe that only opens when the children wish it open. It does, and the gowns are inside, and tails too if she would rather be a mermaid. Every child chooses their own look for the day. Nobody is handed a costume.
3Beneath the jellyfish
Three at a time, one character each.
Three little ones at a time are taken into the salon and seated under the glowing jellyfish canopy, and this is the part that surprises parents most: every makeover is done by a character. Not an attendant in a uniform. Your child sits one to one with a real princess or mermaid who works on them and talks to them the entire time. Mermaid braids, princess buns or fairy styles, whichever she asks for.
4Meanwhile
Nobody is ever waiting.
While the salon is running, another character has the rest of the room: magical crafts they take home as keepsakes, games, and enough going on that no child is ever sitting on the sidelines waiting for a turn. There is never a flat corner in the room.
5When everyone is transformed
Storytime, with surprises in it.
Once every child has been transformed, everyone gathers for an interactive story. It is not a character reading at children. They are inside it, with parts to play and things that happen that nobody sees coming.
6The moment
She is crowned, in front of the whole royal court.
Then the birthday girl is officially crowned in front of every one of their friends, with a crystal tiara they keep. The room goes quiet for it. This is the part that brings the whole party together, and it is the part parents tell us afterwards they were not ready for.
Mums, this is the one to have a tissue for.
7And finally
A tea party luncheon, served to them.
Everyone sits down for the celebration tea. Our staff serve the cheese pizza, the popcorn, the fruit snacks and our signature pink sparkling tea, so no adult is up and down from the table. You are in the parents lounge or at the table with a drink somebody else brought you.

They host parties at our Newport Beach venue every week, their costumes and wigs are prepared by our own wardrobe and styling team, and they are trained to entertain rather than pose. That is what keeps a room of children engaged for two hours, and it is what lets you sit down.

Yes. You choose your favourite princess host when you book.
Are makeovers included?
Yes. Every guest gets the full salon experience with hair, colour and face gems.
Is food included?
Yes, and properly. Every party includes a catered tea party luncheon: cheese pizza, Pirate’s Booty popcorn, tropical fruit snacks and our signature pink sparkling tea, all served to the children by our staff. We love pizza because kids actually eat it. All of our food is catered, and if you would like to switch the menu, just ask. We do not include cake or dessert, but our team will cut and serve yours during the celebration.
How long is the Princess Tea Party?
1.5 to 2.5 hours depending on the tier.
What ages is it best for?
It works beautifully from about three upwards, and is our gentlest package for younger guests.
